We’re humbled that at last week’s 68th Annual Grammy Awards singer songwriter, Lukas Nelson, walked the red carpet and performed in Billy Reid. As a nominee for Best Traditional Country Album, Lukas wore a custom, three-piece suit in a rich color palette of brown and black. He then performed an in memoriam with Reba McEntire and Brandy Clark in a one-of-a-kind suede jacket.
Stylist Madeleine Kennedy, who has whooped it up with us at Shindig, collaborated with us to create a look that stayed true to Lukas’ style and roots. The black suede jacket featured archival artwork that was chainstitched by local Florence artisan Olivia Sherif. It featured horses, an homage to Lukas’ father Willie. Coincidentally, Willie Nelson has also been spotted wearing Billy Reid, too.
Being based in Muscle Shoals, music has been a large inspiration and driver of what we do. We’re so thankful to work with amazing musicians like Lukas—it is always an honor and truly a highlight of the year.
“My main purpose when working with someone who is performing is that they feel comfortable and confident. I’ve been in those situations and you don’t want to worry about your clothes. You want to feel good and look good.” —Billy
“Lukas asked for different shades of brown and something that would stand out in a sea of black and gray. It’s the little subtleties that make it what it is: a boot cut trouser, wider lapel, longer vest. The fabric stood out and held a cool shape. The combo made it event worthy.” —Billy
