NOLA TO THE MoMA
Photographer, writer, and unofficial Nola ambassador. Kasimu is an unforgettable force of authenticity. It reverberates in his art and friendships. We speak from experience—Billy and Kasimu have been friends for 10+ years.
We got to celebrate the artist’s MoMA debut and shot a few notable New Orleanians together (more on that soon!) at his studio in a once-abandoned school devastated by Hurricane Katrina.
As a previous employee of the Nola Billy Reid shop, Kasimu knew who to call for a custom suit for the opening exhibition New Photography 2025: Lines of Belonging.
“Back when I was dating my now wife Billy said that if I ever married her he would make me a tuxedo. I never followed through on that, so when I texted him about the MoMA I was hoping he’d offer to make a suit. I think he remembered too, because he offered!”

The double-breasted suit’s crimson exterior and cream interior is a nod to Kasimu’s fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi, and commemorates four past members who have also shown at the MoMA, like painter Al Loving.
After a long photoshoot, Kasimu invited the whole crew over to decompress and then showed us the city he loves and champions, highlighting aspects of old grit and well-built grandeur.
Kasimu has never met a stranger, and we’re honored to call him a friend. Congratulations on a job well done!
