The Icons
Since the beginning, we’ve created clothes with quality craftsmanship that are designed to live, made to last, and always in style—our Icons bring that ethos to life. They’re more than just our favorite pieces, they represent a curated collection of milestones and memories from the last 20 years of Billy Reid.
“These things have a story to them, they have a life. I don’t know if we’d do anything different to the Dover Sweatshirt than the way it’s designed right now. I wouldn’t do anything different to the denim shirt since its launch in 2004. We want pieces that are going to live with you. That’s what we try to make and that’s what people respond to.” – Billy
Shown in our Fall 2001 NYFW show and thoughtfully named after our former Bond Street shop in Manhattan, the Bond Peacoat has been our number-one bestselling item since its debut over two decades ago. It’s got that sharp, classic look made from sturdy melton wool that rejects pilling and picking. It’s also the go-to coat of James Bond himself. Daniel Craig loved the look so much, he asked that it be used in the film Skyfall.

For nearly two decades, we’ve kept this piece just the way it was when Billy first designed it. In fact, Billy still wears the original sample, faded and frayed over the years to look even better. The broken-in feeling gives it just a bit more character to fit your style. It goes with everything from jeans and a tee to your favorite blazer. Wear it in the winter as a layer or in the summer as a lighter jacket. No matter where the day takes you, the Shoals Denim Shirt is ready for the job.

Our Dover Sweatshirt is a lot of things: practical, stylized, rugged, refined. Over a decade ago, Billy was frustrated with his sweatshirts when the sleeves continued to wear thin too quickly. The solution he came up with was to make his own and add leather patches to the elbows. These leather patches help minimize wear and tear, are easy on the eyes, and are a bit unexpected. It feels like something you’ve had for years—that washed-a-hundred-times, classic look.

A good leather jacket grows with you. Forget the notions about having to “break it in,” the Blake jacket’s soft, supple lambskin is built to move with you from the moment you put it on. Built for long road trips and repeated uses, the leather will tell a new story with every crease and fold the more you wear it.

Some twenty years ago, we presented the Pensacola Polo in our NYFW Spring show. It was simple but good—really good. Yet, we knew we could make it better. So in 2008, Billy made some fit adjustments, and the rest is history—a best-selling, beloved piece customers keep coming back to, season after season. The fit and construction really set this basic apart, but we know it’s the color saturation and ultra-soft hand feel that make it so special.

A jean that has been going the distance for over two decades, literally. The Moleskin has pounded the pavement in New York, Paris, and small-town Alabama, and looked right at home doing so. Billy first showed these jeans in the Fall 2001 NYFW show for his William Reid collection, but they’ve been so good and reliable—they’ve never left. They’re cut from a super soft brushed cotton that gets better with time. It’s been a constant in our closets and our customers’ closets for all these years.

The hard-wearing utilitarian shirt gets a luxe upgrade with our Savoy Suede Workshirt, an iconic style that dates back to one of Billy’s first collections. Crafted from supple suede, it’s finished with antique brass snaps and western-style chest pockets. But don’t let its soft hand fool you; this isn’t a piece to be babied. The more you wear it, the more it develops a beautiful patina and a feeling that we call “lived-in luxury.”

We like it when a piece has more to it than meets the eye, and that’s certainly the case with the MSL 1-Pocket. With a nod to classic denim design, this shirt features selvedge detailing throughout its construction: on the wearer’s left pocket, under the placket and cuff. It’s simple yet thoughtful and dresses up or down with ease. It’s the only shirt you’ll ever really need.
